My colleague Ilan Moscovitz at the Motley Fool proposes that the financial crisis was caused, in part, by investors focusing on short-term gain rather than on the long-term health of the businesses they were investing in. He proposes a tax on short-term sales of stock to provide an incentive for long-term rather than short term investing. But why am I telling you this? Go read it yourself.
